Testimonials

“Three things in my life saved me from going down a path of misery and depression:  my mother, God, and the staff (at Headway)…With each struggle I face now, I am filled with the courage and skills to take a healthy approach to fixing whatever it is that is I am having trouble with.”

Katie joined Headway in October, 2015 and has worked in human services since 2008.  She is experienced in working with children aged 3-18 and their families experiencing a variety of struggles, from emotional coping, impulse control, trauma, communication, conflict resolution, and identity questions.  She is trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy as well as the use of art, sand, and play therapy.  As a school-based therapist, she works with elementary-aged children providing individual therapy as well as working with their families and teachers to best help them.  "I believe building caring, trustworthy relationships with clients and their natural supports is essential to real change," she says.  "I work to empower kids by giving them the skills, support, and safe place that they need to work through trauma, manage emotions, learn to engage in healthy relationships, and tackle various challenges they may face."

When she is not at work, Katie loves spending time with her family, going to the beach or park, and cooking and baking.
